      Video Review & Installation

This Bestop all-weather trail cover in gray is for those of you that have a 2-door 2007 to 2018 JK that are looking for a cover that's going to offer some weatherproof protection for you when you have the top down and/or the doors off. This is going to be a little bit thicker than some of the less expensive covers out there, and this is going to be very water-resistant where a lot of the other ones are going to let a lot of moisture through. So this is gonna offer some really nice protection although that also means it's gonna be a little bit pricier. This is gonna be a nice easy one out of three wrenches for the installation. And I'm gonna show you exactly how to get it installed on your Jeep in just a second. So, you're gonna find a lot of different covers. There are going to be cab covers. There are going to be full vehicle covers. Some are going to be weatherproof and some are not going to be. I really like the cab cover here because I only ever really wanna cover the cab area of my Jeep. I don't really have much of a need to cover the hood and the rest of the vehicle. Also, if I'm parking my vehicle outside, I don't really like having a full car cover on, because if the wind does blow, it can chafe, especially on the rounded corners of the hood and cause some paint damage. So again, this is the type of cover that I run on my Jeep and the type that I recommend to a lot of people. So when you have your hardtop removed, you have your soft top either completely removed or just folded down into the trunk space, you can easily throw this on, strap it down, and this will keep everything out of your Jeep. Dirt, leaves, pets, and moisture will all be kept out by this top. Now, this doesn't have any bows across the top section here so if you get some really heavy rain, it can pool in this area here but it is going to keep the Jeep dry. And that's what it's all about. It's going to save some wear and tear on your soft top putting it up and down every evening for instance and certainly going to save you a lot of work of popping your hardtop back on and off if you park your Jeep outside. Even if there wasn't any rain in the forecast, I would throw this on just to keep any dew out of the Jeep so everything's nice and dry when I hop in it in the morning. So, this is a very nice top to have. It has a nice soft interior. So anywhere that it does make contact with the paint, which is really just going to be the top of the tub rails here and the top of the windshield frame, those areas aren't going to be damaged by the cover because it does have this almost felt-like interior. This has quite a few layers on the material and it's almost akin to a soft top material on the outside, again being completely weather resistant. It does strap to the Jeep in a couple of different areas, especially in the back. That's very, very important. Otherwise, rain would just run down and end up right inside the Jeep. And all of the straps are adjustable, and it does have a couple of metal grommets on both sides so if you choose to lock your trail cover onto your Jeep, you can do that as well. Now, I mentioned before, this is gonna be a little pricier than some of the other covers out there. And the reason for that is that it is an all-weather top. So this is going to be completely water-resistant. It is going to actually hold water where a lot of the other ones will let moisture through. This comes in at $130 for the 2-door JK. If you are looking for full protection including against rain, I think this is the way to go. Bestop makes a very high-quality product. I think $130 is very, very fair especially when you consider it's going to save your soft top a lot of wear and tear going up and down every evening. So I think this is going to be a pretty good buy at the price. Now I'm gonna show you exactly how to get this installed onto your Jeep. So like I said, very, very simple, one out of three wrench installation here, not really an installation at all. Of course, this is a cover. You just really throw it over and make sure that it's secured so the wind isn't going to take it away, and I'll show you exactly how to do that. You can see, our Jeep is in this configuration with the top down and actually completely removed, but you can still install this if you just have your soft top folded down. This is not going to install very easily or fit very well if you have a hardtop installed. But then again, if you have your hardtop installed, you wouldn't need to install this. So, top down, hardtop removed, whatever it is, no top on the Jeep, this is the configuration that you'll want to install this cab cover. Now we still have our doors on, and we're gonna install the cab cover in this configuration, but because this does have the door flaps, if you had the doors off, it would still seal up all of the big openings. So the first step is to take the cover out of the storage bag. So there are a lot of ways to get this installed on the Jeep. I don't like to set this on the ground as much as possible. So you can use the hood to unfold it or you can actually just kind of unfold it and throw it over top of the Jeep and then orient which side is the front or the back. That's usually the method that I go with. So, we'll go ahead and get this unfolded and toss it over the Sport cage. So once you have it halfway up on the vehicle here, this is the part where we're gonna figure out which end is the front, which sides are the sides and get it spun around so that it's properly oriented. Here is one of the door flaps. So now we just have to figure out which side is the front and which is the back. So there are a couple of straps that go on the back so that's a pretty good indicator of which end is the front, which end is the back. We actually got it right the first time here. But if we had gotten it backward, it's just a matter of flipping it back around. So now that it's very, very loosely on top of the Jeep, it's just a matter of making a couple of laps around, pulling it down, and making sure that it's fitting how it should be fitting before you go ahead and attach the adjustable straps. So as your work the cover over the windshield frame here, you'll get to where the mirror is. If your Jeep is in factory trim and you have the doors installed on your Jeep, all you really need to do is fold those mirrors in and then the cab cover will go right over top of them. You can see that there is a seam here. So, this does have a little bit of additional room to go over top of that mirror. That's not gonna cause a problem. Of course, if you do have the mirror on the A-pillar on a mirror mover, that's not gonna be in the way. If you have your doors removed, that's not gonna be in the way. So really no matter what configuration your Jeep is in, this is going to work just fine for you. So once you have this pretty much set down over top of where it goes, you're going to clip the bottom of the door flaps onto the bottom of the tub. Now, if you don't have anything in this area or if you have like a tubular sidestep, you're gonna be just fine attaching onto the bottom of the pinch seam which is really where this is designed to go. We have a slightly different situation. We have a Rubicon-style rail and also a rock slider on there. So we're gonna have to be a little bit more creative with where we clip these. But you should be able to find somewhere to attach this to. And the idea behind this is really just so that the wind isn't gonna be able to come and pick up the top. So you do wanna be able to secure this to something. After you have those side straps secured, you can secure this part to the tub. So this is actually going to clip into the J-channel on top of the tub in much the same way that your soft top window does, so very, very simply. You have a couple of these small pieces of plastic that just slide up into that J-channel. As you're attaching this side, things may be a little bit loose on the other side still. So these may not want to stay exactly where they should be. But as you rotate around the Jeep tightening everything up a couple of times, you will get this tight enough to where these will stay exactly where you want them to sit. Now we're gonna repeat the same process on this side. These last couple of straps on the back are really important if you want this to be truly weatherproof. As you can see, the back of the top does slant a little bit, and any water that gathers is just gonna run down here and end up directly in your trunk if you don't have these secured. So you wanna make sure that these are nice and tight. So same deal here. Loosen up the strap a little bit. These ones actually just clip right onto the bottom of the door and then you can pull this strap tight. So once you have all the straps and clips fairly tight, you can really just make a couple laps around the Jeep and make some adjustments. As you can see, we have a little bit of pulling here. It's not really going to affect the way that the top performs. But if you do wanna make things a little bit nicer looking, again, just make a couple laps around. Give it a couple of pulls, a couple tugs, adjust just those straps, and you can get a lot of these wrinkles out. Once you have it sitting exactly how you want it, if you decide that you wanna attach the optional cable lock, you can do that. There are a couple of metal grommets. We don't have one of those cable locks with us. But if you do and you wanna attach it, it's a very simple process, again going through those metal grommets and then locking the cover on to the Jeep. So if you are looking for a completely weather-resistant trail cover for your JK, I would recommend this choice from Bestop, and you can find it right here at extremeterrain.com.
