    Video Review & Installation

These Smittybilt neoprene seat covers for both the front and the rear of your '97-'06 TJ are gonna be for those of you that are looking for a cover that's gonna do one of a couple of different things. A seat cover is going to protect your seats if your seats are in good condition, they're going to cover up any damage that you may have cheaper than actually recovering the seat, and they're also going to change up the look of the interior of your Wrangler. And these ones from Smittybilt are going to do all of those three things. These are gonna be a nice easy installation, one out of three wrenches, and I'll show you exactly how to do that in just a second. So when you're looking at seat covers, you're going to find them in a few different types of materials, you're going to find some that are actually leather, some that are just a thinner cotton material, we have some that look like a regular beach towel and then we have some that are these. These are going to be specific not down to the sub model of your TJ but they are going to fit in very well onto your Jeep. They're going to have cutouts for different things like the seat back adjusters and the other levers on the back of the seat as well, so they're gonna fit very nicely. And the fact that they are a neoprene material means that they're going to be nice and comfortable, they're actually a nice thick material so they add a little bit of additional padding and they're going to wear very well. Your seats take a lot of beating when you're getting in and out of the Jeep, especially the driver's seat, you're usually sliding across this area and your seats can get very worn, your seat covers can get very worn as well. So you want something that's gonna hold up well and this neoprene is going to do that. Now, neoprene is not going to be a waterproof material, but it is going to be a water-resistant material. So if you have a quick spill on this, if there's a quick passing shower and you get to it quick enough, you will be able to wipe that water off without too much of it seeping in, which is going to be a nice feature as well. These are going to be machine washable, so if they do end up getting dirty, you can take them out, throw them in the washing machine or just hose them off, clean them with a brush, let them dry out and pop right back in the jeep. Anytime you have a fabric inside your Jeep, you do need to worry about fading. These aren't going to fade any more or any less than any other seat cover that you might purchase. But being black, there is always the chance of a little bit of fading. So if you do want to keep these looking good for a good long time, you can go ahead and treat them with a spray on UV protectant, that's going to keep them nice and black and keep them from fading on you. Now, neoprene is going to be one of the more expensive materials for a seat cover because it is thicker, because it is water resistant, because it does hold up so well. Now I'm gonna show you how to get these installed in your Jeep, which again is a very simple process. We're going to start with the bottom cover and then move to the back cover. So all you have to do is disconnect these buckles right off the bat, peel the Velcro apart, and then we're going to start by setting the bottom section over the bottom of the seat and sliding this flap between the seat bottom and the seat back. So once you have the cover roughly in place like this, you can go ahead and feed the seat back adjustment lever through this hole that's cut out on the seat bottom. So once that's done, you can go ahead and attach the Velcro on the corners here. We'll do the other side in just a second. But the next step is going to be these straps here. So we're gonna loosen them up, make sure we have as much play as possible. These are gonna get passed from the front to the back directly underneath the seat and connect to the female end of the buckle and then we can tight it down. They're gonna be two of these. So as you can see, we have the top removed from this Jeep partly so that you guys can see a little bit better, but it also does give us a little bit easier access to the back of the seat through this area here. And we've moved the seat up and back and moved the back of the seat as well, just kind of move things around to make it as easy as possible for yourself to get these installed. It's a very easy install but these are stretching, you're gonna want to give them a little bit of tension and be able to pull on them and get in some tight places, so don't be afraid to move the seat around, making it as easy as possible for you. So the last thing that we have to do to attach the rest of the seat bottom onto the seat is the two small plastic hooks that are on these elastic pieces on the side, and these just go to the springs on the bottom of the seat themselves. So we're gonna go ahead and feed it in from the side here. So once you feed the hook through from the side, you can really just pull it so that it's nice and tight and then hook it on whichever spring on the bottom of the seat it lines up with best. So that one will hook right there and there is another one on the other side, this one's gonna be a little bit tougher to get to, but just take your time, move the seat around and you'll be able to feed that through. Now that we finished with the seat bottom, we can move on to the seat back. Like the bottom, this is going to have a left and a right, we lined up the seat bottom with this seat back adjustment lever here on the seat back. There's also going to be a little bit of a hole here for the release that's on this back left corner of the seat, so that just helps you figure out which side is the left, which side is the right. These seat backs are a little bit easier, there aren't as many buckles, there aren't as many elastic hooks, it's really just this Velcro on the bottom here that you have to open up. And then you just really wrestle it over the back of the seat and then go ahead and Velcro it together when you're finished, so show you how to do that now. Once everything is pulled tight, you can go ahead and feed the Velcro flap through between the seat bottom and the seat back just like we did the flap on the seat bottom cover, and that'll allow you to Velcro everything together. So you wanna make sure that you get all of your Velcro and all of your straps nice and tight, that's going to get all the wrinkles out of your seat cover and make it look more like a seat and less like a seat cover. If your seat covers do have any wrinkles in them right out of the box, those are going to work themselves out in the heat, in the sun, from you getting in and out of the Jeep, so don't worry too much about those. But again, make sure that all your straps are nice and tight, and as you sit in it and you seat covers get broken in a little bit, you can always tighten them up down the line. So now that we're finished with this front seat, we'll go ahead and move on to the passenger seat before showing you how to install the rear seat. Now that the front seat covers are installed and all the straps are nice and tight, we can move on to the back. This is going to be very similar to the front seats, it's going to have the same type of adjustable buckles, the same type of hook on elastic here. So again, we're gonna start with the seat bottom first. What I'm gonna recommend is that you move your front seats as forward as possible. And what I'm actually going to do is get inside the Jeep, I'm gonna sit on the center console facing backward, I think that'll give me a good angle to work on the back seat. But as I said, with the front seats, move things around, take your top off if you need to, get in the Jeep, get out of the Jeep, whatever you need to do to make it as easy as possible for you to get this in place. So now we're in position here, we'll go ahead and just connect the buckles and then we'll get the seat cover in place. So same as before, we're gonna end up feeding this flap through between the seat bottom and the seat back. What makes this a little bit easier is that the seat does fold and tumble so we'll put it in a couple different positions, again, making it as easy for ourselves as we possibly can. Now I'm gonna flip the seat back forward to allow me to connect the straps underneath the seat. Now, I'll actually tumble the seat forward to make tightening those straps a little bit easier. Once the seat bottom is installed and the straps are nice and tight, we'll go ahead and move on to the seat back. Again, the same procedure as the front, we'll disconnect to this Velcro here, slide the flap between the seat bottom and the seat back and then we connect the Velcro. So, if you're looking to either protect your seats that are in good shape, cover up existing damage or just change up the look of the interior of your TJ, I would recommend these seat covers from Smittybilt and you can find them right here at extremeterrain.com.
