      Video Review & Installation

Hey, guys. So today I'm here with the Rugged Ridge Rock Crawler Rock Sliders, fitting all your '87 to '06 TJ and YJs. This is gonna be a great option if you're looking for some lighter protection to your rocker panel as well as a good stepping surface to give you a boost up into your Wrangler. This is actually gonna be your most affordable option at the moment on this site, coming in at around $230 and I think for a simple yet a stylish mod on your Wrangler that these are a great option. This is gonna be a two out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter because there is some drilling required so let's jump into the install. The tools that we used for our install were an impact wrench, a small drill bit, a 5/16 inch drill bit, a 10-inch extension, a center punch, safety glasses, an 8-millimeter socket, a 13-millimeter socket, a quarter-inch drive ratchet, and a drill. So before we install our side steps, we have to remove this trim piece in order to allow enough room. It's gonna be three 8-millimeter bolts. So now that our trim piece is out of the way, we can mock up our side step so we can mark and drill holes. This may be easier with a help of a friend or if you don't have another person to install these with, I would recommend using a floor jack. So while you're mocking up your side step, you wanna make sure that the tilted end is at the front of the vehicle. So there are two different styles of side steps that you can choose from on the site right now. There's gonna be the more durable option that drills into the body and also mounts up to the body mounts. Since this style drills into the frame, this is gonna give you a little less protection than that body mounted option would. Now that we have marks on our frame, we can go ahead and drill those out. So we're gonna start with a smaller drill bit and work our way up to a 5/16 drill bit. So now that our pilot holes are drilled, we can use a 5/16 inch drill bit to drill out our holes. I would recommend using a lubricant to keep your drill bit cool. So after we drilled our holes, there is bare steel exposed on our frame and as you guys know, TJs are very prone to rust so I would paint those over before mounting up our side steps. So now that our paint is dry, we can mount up our Rock Sliders with our self-tapping bolts. These are gonna be a 13-millimeter. So if you don't have a second person at this point to help you mount this up, you can just rest it on your knee and tap in one of the bolts and it should stay in place. So once the Rock Slider is most of the way mounted up, you might have a little bit of trouble reaching the bolts. I'm using a 10-inch extension to reach this inside upper bolt.So after all of our bolts are tapped, we can move over to the other side but first, I would like to mention that even though these are used for some lighter protection situations, you are gonna get a lot of underbody protection as well as a lot of protection on the side. These are made of two-inch round steel tubing so it's gonna be able to take a hit on the trail and it comes within a black powder coat finish that's gonna resist any rust or corrosion as well as give you that off-road look. So let's head over to the other side so we could mount these Rock Sliders up.So that wraps up my review and install on the Rugged Ridge Rock Crawler Rock Sliders. Description

Construction. Created from incredibly strong steel, these rock crawler rock guards from Rugged Ridge give your Jeep a rugged, aggressive look, and offer plenty of added utility as well. With a special frame mounting design, you get secure, bounce-free installation, while the mounting points remain higher than the frame. The end result? A great product that offers greater ground clearance.

Protection. If you're an off-road enthusiast and want to protect your Jeep from outcroppings, then this is the product for you. It raises the ground clearance, which both gives you an opportunity to take this Jeep places it hasn't been before, and to avoid damage from outcroppings. The unique side hoop takes it a step further and brushes away branches and other debris.

Application. Fits 1987-2006 Jeep Wrangler YJ and TJ Models. Installation involves minor drilling and all installation hardware is included in the kit.
